Thumbs up Are escalating wages damaging the profession?

From: Drug Topics

Date: Dec 12, 2005

By: Susan J. Bliss, RPh., M.B.A.

Topic: Are escalating wages damaging the profession?

"The French have a saying: "Be careful what you wish for; you may get it." As great demand for pharmacists continues, pharmacy chains and health systems bid against one another to staff their expanding facilities. It seems as if there has never been a better time to be in pharmacy, except for the patients: It's nearly impossible to get five minutes with a pharmacist. "

Are escalating wages damaging the profession? - Drug Topics

"Despite high wages, when pharmacists reduce their hours or quit because of the stressed-out work atmosphere, clearly it's not "all about the money."

As it states in this article:

http://www.ucop.edu/healthaffairs/re...20PHARMACY.pdf

Please read page 4, last paragraph. It says that foreign pharmacy graduates face additional barriers to achieving U.S. licensure. They have language difficulties, knowledge of specific U.S. pharmacopeias, limit transfer of education credits, and other obstacles decrease opportunities for foreign graduates to enter the workforce. Really?

Do you admit that you have language difficulties? Do you concede that ETS is the only organization to tell everyone that you cannot communicate? I will let you decide.

What are you going to do? Will you let others inform that foreign graduates cannot enter the workforce because they cannot use English in communication? The problem are the TOEFL format and score language requirements set by NABP.

I will repeat again. You must inform your state boards.
