A pharmacist with FPGEC ( intern ) gets 15-25 $/hour depending on state and corporation. You can work as intern for up to 1500 hours. After your intern license expires you can no longer work as an intern in the same state . A registered pharmacist get 30-60 $ / hour . You can work without FPGEC as a technician and here the fee will prabably be 10-15 $ / hour. But the major issue is the visa in case you don't have Green card or US residency. |

Thanks. I am holding F1 visa now, and on the I-20 it shows my major is pharmacy. Can I work in pharmacy store to get my intern hours by using CPT? And does the intern hours count before I get FPGEC? Thanks.

No , the intern hours don't count before receiving your FPGEC . To start your internship , you'll need internship license which requires you to have FPGEC. Internship license is obtained from the state board and It expires after 2 years . What do you mean by CPT ?

It depends on the state.
Some states give you an intern licence without your FPGEC. They let you do your intern after you send them a copy of your passing score from FPGEE or a copy of your passing score from the TOEFL. After that, you are allowed to do your 1500 hours intenship and meanwhile to work on your another exam. At least it's in my state. I got my intern licence and now I have to work on my TOEFL and do my intern.

But the question is , would any employer sponsor a H1B visa without FPGEC? Does it make a difference for the employer ? It does , doesn't it ? I mean the employer usually expect you to focus on Naplex not still the fpgec... |

I'm sorry, I didn't know anything about employer's sponsors for a visa. I'm a citizen now. It probably makes a big difference. I just know one thing, if you had your oficial intern on your hands, employer wouldn't care what else you need to do. But it's again different for people who need a visa. Sorry, I can't help you with it.

FPGEC is not a requirement for internship in the states of Maryland & North Carolina. Foreign pharmacists may earn internship hours before completing FPGEE exam. For the state of North Carolina - Under North Carolina Law, an individual with a BS in Pharmacy may work as an intern without having passed the FPGEE. All interns seeking practical pharmacy experience must register with Board’s internship program using forms provided by the Board. link: NCBOP -Pharmacist FAQs This is not written on the NC Board of Pharmacy website but it is true.... In this state, you do not need an approval to begin your internship. What you need to do is 1. Seek employment in the pharmacy 2. After you are hired you may contact the board and receive the internship hours' form which will be filled and signed by your preceptor/supervisor. For the state of Maryland, Foreign graduate pharmacist candidates may earn internship hours before completing the FPGEE examination. You do not need an intern license to start working as an intern in this state. link: http://www.dhmh.state.md.us/pharmacy...AQ-foreign.pdf What you need to do is 1. Seek employment in the pharmacy 2. After you are hired you may contact the board and receive the internship hours' form (this is also available online at the board's website). After you complete your internship hours, the form will be filled, signed & notarized by your preceptor/supervisor. Easy? Hoping this will help, Trav Last edited by Trav : 09-06-2007 at 11:07 PM. |

Hi Lara,
I am just wondering, are you doing your internship hours now? If so, may I know which State? Because I also want to start my internship even though I only passed my FPGEE, and not yet TOEFL. And please, could you tell me the whole process of getting the intern license? I am a green card holder. Thanks a lot. |
