The pharmacist shortage [Click: http://www.urch.com/forums/pharmacy-...shortage.html] (Articles related to pharmacist shortage!) continues and pharmacy stores shut down or reduce their operation hours. Patients cannot get medication they need because drugstores shut down. Why?

There are not enough pharmacists in the system. Why?

Because, the delay of licensed process, with rigid requirement that is no realistic. There are qualified pharmacists out there but the language test blocks those pharmacists to get their pharmacy licenses.

People might argue that Americans do not want the influx of foreign pharmacists. This event might be as same as the influx of IT immigrants.

Come on! It is a different phenomenon. Each country has limited ability to produce pharmacists. UK, Canada, French, Australia, and everywhere experience pharmacist shortages. Pharmacy schools are not easy to establish. They require high investments, including laboratory equipment, high tuition resulting from lengthy of education (5-8 years), and scarcity of workforce as faculty.

What are the consequences of the shortages?

Safety of lives. Lives are at stake of the practice in healthcare. Studies show that there are correlations between medication errors and shortages of pharmacists. Tired workers tend to make more errors.

Let's put it this way:

Are you willing either to have pharmacists that you can understand but they speak with accent give you medication or not to have medication at all? Worse than that, what if your children receive wrong medication from busy drugstores, what would you do?

I hope that those who receive wrong medication are not your children, your father, or your friends.

Please help do research about severity of pharmacist shortage and alternatives for TOEFL iBT. We are preparing documents, facts, and data to use diplomatic methods to talk to NABP first.

Think about others who are affected t=by pharmacist shortage such as chain drugstores, hospitals, or even American people who we can send messages across about disadvantages of pharmacist shortage.

We have sent out a letter requesting the NABP president and Executive Committee to meet us in the middle of April.

We are waiting for a reply.

We are preparing documents and data.

We also have a legal association, IPHARM-US.

Becoming united and then fighting until we get a good and fair result is our strategy.

I am also in the same condition like you. I also want to speak with president of NABP but, unfortunately, I can't fly that much distance. I have tried toefl almost 10 times, and couldn't meet the speaking session, even though I am getting high score in other sessions. Because of that, I am feeling high pressure from my working place. I have a place of doing some amendments in this field of career, I am giving my full support. Because hundreds of internationals are wasting their career and give up their hope because of this. From my own experience, I could say, it's the struggle for living. Already wasted 1000's of $'s. I have passed my FPGEE with bright colours in single attempt. Then, the TOEFL is the powerful criteria to measure our knowledge. We should do something, other wise nobody will concern about our given up hopess and career. We came to this country to establish a career oriented future.........I am expressing my heartfilled support for your decison regarding this issue.

If you find any documents, facts and data which will help us put together our arguments against TOEFL iBT and language requirement and if those documents can be used to prove that our language ability should be proved by other means , please post them here or send private messages to me. Thanks.
