Religious problem with FPGEE
Hello everyone on this forum, it's the first time I send a message on it but I read the posts and it's very interesting for me.
I've written several letters to the NABP to ask for a different day than saturday to take the test in june 2008, because as a jewish orthodox person, I absolutely cannot perform any task, any work on shabbat (begins friday at the sunset until saturday evening). So it's clear that I can't take FPGEE on saturday. The problem is that NABP has just answered to me, one month after my third letter, that "they're sorry for the inconvenience, but hope I can arrange my schedule accordingly". I was astonished to read that answer because it seems that they consider it as a problem with personal schedule instead of a religious belief issue for which I cannot make any compromise. What do you think I should do ? Have you ever succeeded to reach NABP by phone ? They don't answer to questions regarding FPGEE by phone. Are there any persons in the same situation or have you heard about someone in the same situation ? Thank you for your help. Last edited by knok : 03-16-2008 at 07:18 PM. |

I'am impressed about you reporting your religious issue to NABP attention and asking for another testing day other than saturday. I would suggest that you should found other test takers with the same issue, and keep writing to NABP, because usually one voice is never heard.
Keep us updated about the situation.

I am sorry to say, but I don't think any organization or instituition would run by one single case or situation. It's something as told by NABP has to be requested atleast before they could decide on a test date or try for your own interest of choice.
I think this is very peculiar and also difficult in terms of arranging a different test date for 1 single person. Please have a deep thought about it. Good posting, anyway. - Last edited by knok : 03-06-2008 at 06:55 AM. |

However, I have a couple of questions? I am not able to realize, what would be the reason of not doing anything in a day like the Shabbat that you mentioned? As all we know, day & night, 24 hours in a day, 7days of the week,… all are determined & measured by human being. Now, how come the God considered and ordered a day like(Shabbat), which is calculated and named by humankind, as a holy day and ordered not to do anything in that certain day even if someone's life is in-danger? Why a physician, a surgeon, a pharmacist or… whom his existing is necessary and vital in a place like hospital or even pharmacy, cannot do his job because of this order? I know this isn’t a new and wonderful question for you or Jewish religion, however, I am so interested to know when you do so, millions of people around the world, who are not doing as you do, are doing wrong? Why God orders are varies in different recognized religions, which all have been sent by him/her to the earth, in different times?!!! What will happen if someone in your religion help others in that day or take an exam(FPGEE) which is very important for him? Do God punish him or; Will he be asked in other world…, Is he a big sinner?!! Again, hope you find a way,... |

Hi Tiffany:
I have pretty clear answer for you and I think you would be happy to hear that answer. I have passed my FPGEE in 2005 and a friend of mine has been taking this exam from 2006 Dec. and I am the person who take him to the FPGEE center. In 2007 Dec FPGEE exam, his center was double tree hotel and i was kind of surprised because in chicago they never change the test place. It always held in same place. When we got there, we noticed there were not a single candidates for a exam and we were surprised. We call the usual test center and find about that so they told us that your center address is right but exam will be on sunday. That news also surprised and increase our curiosity so we go further to find out that mystery why they are taking exam on different date. So we finally found out from one of the manager that center is reserved by NAPLEX for 10 jewish students who cannot take exams on saturday. I am the evidence of that event. They bymistake type the other address on my friends EN card and the date was same like other candidates. So be relaxed you can take exam on other than saturday. |

This is a good discusssion. Babak, I would prefer that members not discuss the reasoning of the religious beliefs; such discussion really has no place in this forum.
It's perfectly fine to discuss the conflict between the OP and the testing date, but not the reasoning behind it. On a related note, College Board offers Sunday SAT testing specifically for people in this situation. |

Erin,
You are right. It is better that this forum stands far away from religion discussion. I lost my temper & control for awhile. Appologize. Actually, I think we all know what is the religion roles in human's life. So, its discussion is out of this forum patience. Agree. I have some other concerns which I raised them in other thread (Discrimination or Simple Service?!!!). If you are interested, you can follow it there. Cheers, Babak |
