Hi Osman
I am sorry for replying so late,I have already started my internship and it is kind of busy!!! Are you looking for sponsors?can I ask you why do you want to move here?Trust me!!If you are working for a PCT then I would not come here,is now worth it. Personally after having 10 people working under me in LOndon, now I have to listen to a little girl who is training me and believe me is not fun to do everything all over again,if I could turn back the time I would not have moved here. Think about it. |

I know it isn't going to be easy and I will have to start over agaim. Yeah I have a job with Primary Care Trust at the moment and I have been through the stage of having 10 people under me. I just feel that UK isn't getting any better either........ With Medication Use Reviews companies pushing for more more more and more ........ And especially with the change of Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britian to a General Pharmacy Body which will happen soon. I also think it is absolute appalling that everytime a new member joins the EU that there pharmacist just flood UK and detrimental effects. Also with six new pharmacy schools opening that doesn't help again there will be a huge surplus of pharmacist like in the 1960s which there was a high number of unemplyed pharmacists..... Pharmacists that are still in community setup are asked to work all hours especially with this new 100hour pharmacy contract in place.
The real reason I would like to come to the USA is not the financial gain but the lifestyle. I know it will be real hard for about 5 years but after that it would be good. And I will always have the option to come back to England. Why was the reason you moved to the USA and what state and whom are you doing your internship with?? and did you apply for H1B or did you have a greencard. I have also decided when I come over that I woild like to live in California since I really like the lifestyle there and have friends and close family out there too.

Great discussion Ninah & Osman. At least now we get the rough idea of the pros and cons of working in the US vs working is the UK. I really appreciate your honest analysis on the subject matter.
But I think since this forum is for the american audience, I believe it would benefit everybody if we try to avoid british jargon like PCT, MUR, RPSGB etc, or write their meanings so that all of us would benefit from the discussion. It makes more sense to use such jargon when you write private messages to each other. Thanks for understanding. Last edited by testtube07 : 05-31-2008 at 09:05 PM. |

If I am correct it is for foreign pharmacists and the challenges they face to become a pharmacist in the USA, and the pros and cons of becoming a PHARMACIST in the USA.

Osman,
Regarding "american audience vs foreign pharmacists" - You're right, that's what I actually intended to write. My words unintentionally excluded foreign pharmacists currently not located in the US. Thanks for the correction. Last edited by testtube07 : 06-01-2008 at 12:59 AM. |

I moved here because I got married and my husband has already been here for 20 years. I guess you are right about the situation with UK and I totally understand your reasons for wanting to come here. I live in Orange County and have started doing my internship with CVS,it is going good and so far I have been doing everything,I am just having some difficulties with their computer system,is kind of hard. Do you now have to wait till next year? |

You have got to remember each country has it's good and bad point including USA and Canada, you need to ask yourself why you want to go there in first plac, before making the move.
