Canadian pharmacist looking to practice in US graduated 2005, 4 yrs-Am I doomed?

Hello,

I am new to this forum and hoping to look for some answers to my questions. I am contemplating the possibility of practicing in the US....

However, I was browsing the ECE site and it mentioned

"Applicants who were issued a pharmacy degree on or after 1 January 2003 must have completed a five-year pharmacy program (minimum) by the time of graduation".

I have a B.Pharm degree after 4 years of study and obtained it 2005....does that mean I could never practice in the states? or can I, but must undergo further studies?

I appreciate the help Thanks in advance!

If it's a four year program, i think you can't sit for the FPGEE. Try looking for post Pharm.D programs in US open for international pharmacists.
By the way, what's the salary of pharmacists in Canada? If it doesn't make a difference then I don't think there's really a need to go over the whole tiring exam procesS?

Hm...thanks for the suggestion. I thought as much, I emailed the NABP just to be sure.I'm not too sure about the rest of Canada, but where I currently practice (montreal) the salary ranges from 70-85k for a retail pharmacist, but a lot of that goes to income tax.

Does anyone know of post Pharm. D programs in the US for international students?

I was working in Montreal also, and most of the pharmacist I knew were making around 50$/hr. But bikyo 7 is right, after the income tax there is not much left!!

Hi bikyo 7,
I thought a lot about your problem, and I remembered something: when I sent my papers to ECE, they also asked for my grades from CEGEP. I asked why, and if I remember well they told me the second year of CEGEP was considered pre-pharmacy courses. It may be a long shot, but maybe it worths a try if you did your CEGEP in Quebec. (I graduated in 92, so i didn't have the 4-5 years issue).
Good luck,
Pikatchou

Thank you very much for your suggestion. It made me feel a bit better I have just requested transcripts from my CEGEP. Hopefully, I'll be considered for the FPGEE...like you said, it's a long shot. Time to pray real hard!

How long was your CEGEP bikyo7?

And pikatchou, do you know what other credentials are accepted besides A-levels and this? For e.g. is IB accepted?

My cegep degree was done over 2 years. I received a pre-university degree.
