H1B Living expenses and Accommodation
I have just been thinking of how I could meet my living expenses and accommodation.Should I recieve approval HIB visa approval?
Do the sponsoring company provide accommodation and living expenses before you get your first salary? I especially want to hear from those who were sponsored by Walgreens in the Arizona area or other Walgreens interns elsewhere. Good luck guys. - Last edited by knok : 04-29-2008 at 08:32 PM. Hi MASHURA,
Thought of that too before accepting RiteAid offer. Came up with this budget as I consulted with friends. I'll be going to Virginia so this is more or less how I see monthly expenses: Tax 30% Health Insurance 2% Housing $550 (I will have 1 roommate in a 2-bedroom apartment) Utilities $140 Car $400 Gas $ 75 Grocery $100 (depends on individual) Clothing/Shopping $100 (men, women need this. to my fellow girlies, i know! this isn't much!!!! haha! need to budget dears) Dining $100 Miscellaneous expenses $100 Saving for NAPLEX etc fee $125 Savings ATLEAST 5% Utilities is due to water $15, electricity $75, home phone $45, mobile phone $45, cable $55. Note that your mobile phone bill will not be divided into 2. For Car, you still need to make around $2,500 downpayment IF you don't have a credit history. However, if you have friends or loved ones with credit history who will be willing to co-sign your loan, you can forego with this downpayment. Again, car payments will depend on the car you choose. Gas depends on how far your store from home is and how often/frequent/far you travel. Clothing budget will eventually be eating up a smaller portion of budget as time goes by. Initial though, allocation of $100 monthly while we are building up on clothes isn't much I seriously think. Dining budget refers to going out for special dinners. Maybe with friends, maybe with loved ones, or maybe just pamperng yourself. You can do away with this if you want. Miscellaneous expenses refers to medicines (either for co-pays or those not covered in some health plans) or anything else I might not have foreseen. Remember, we still need to save up for our NAPLEX, MPJE, i dont know what else. To everyone, please feel free to comment. As to assistance from companies, RiteAid does give relocation allowance; I have friends with Walgreens and know they do too. Again, amount depends on area. Hope this helps. I paid $50 for a full tank of gas, probably $300 a month for gas alone. Don't fortget to add car insurance too.
![]() Welcome to America! Good luck.

Thank you for your input, knok. The entry I did on car payment was supposed to be inclusive of car insurance (that's what I gathered from friends). Do you think this is not realistic? If so, what would you suggest?
Just to clarify also, this budget for the car is for a brand new car (just sedan). That's the reason why I also did not set budget for maintenance, repairs, etc. Also, older cars would be consuming more gasoline, right? In view of this, how much would you say should we allocate for gas for brand new cars and how much for older cars? Or not much difference, you think? Would appreciate your or anyone else' input. |
