Does anybody know how soon can we apply for SSN? Can we apply now even if our H1B visas start October 1, 2008? Anybody who has experience with this? Thanks!

I am in the same boat as u & already have a H1. I went to the SSA office & was informed that I cannot apply for a SSn before Oct 1st

Let me know if you know anything different.
