Program: Accounting - Tax Research Interest
GMAT Score: 90th %, AWA 6.0 Undergrad GPA: 3.8 Graduate GPA: 3.95 Research experience: Throughout undergrad and masters I have been an RA for professors in marketing, MIS, and Accounting. Familiarization with WRDS, SAS, etc... My graduate instituition also has a class in their MSA program that introduces students to academic research and tools for evaluating papers. Professional experience: Part-time tax accountant during my undergrad, no full-time experience Attending: University of Arizona Admitted: University of Arizona Interviews: Chicago, Arizona, Missouri, Texas A&M Rejected: University of Chicago Withdrawn: Wisconsin-Madison, Washington, North Carolina, Iowa, Georgia, Texas A&M, Missouri, Michigan State Comments: Arizona was one of my top choices because of their extremely strong tax faculty (probably #2 or #3 in the country). As a result, when I was admitted there I immediately made a decision and withdrew from everywhere that had not accepted/rejected me yet. |

Program: Accounting
GMAT Score: 690 (49Q, 35V) Undergrad GPA: ~3.7 last 2 years (Electrical Engineering and Applied Math) Graduate GPA: ~3.85 (MSc & PhD in Math Finance) Research experience: MSc. Thesis, three working papers (Math finance papers) and I read several accounting papers which I referenced in my statement of purpose. Professional experience: Worked as a R&D engineer for about 1 year. Attending: Toronto Admitted: ASU, UCLA, Rochester, and Toronto Interviews: none Rejected: UNC, Duke Withdrawn: UBC, I was waitlisted at Berkeley but told them I would only wait until march 13. Comments: I don't have much of an accounting background, just the normal debits and credits type work in an intro course. I do have plenty of Math ad Finance and some econ, plus I have read a fair number of accounting articles which I believe helped convince the adcoms that I was somewhat knowledgeable about capital markets accounting research. |
