One aspect of the academic life is that you are essentially a public figure .. What you say and do does enter common knowledge and yet, you are expected to say what's on your mind because you are supposedly an expert ..

We might as well practice some of that in this forum .. I figure so long as we are thoughtful and accurate in what we say, we are fine ..

Yeah, I'm definitely an easy one to identify; but I'm not worried, because I have been careful about what I've posted from the beginning. That being said, I do not plan to post here once I start my program.

For one, I doubt I'll have either the time or the interest anymore, since school will be kicking my butt and this is largely an admissions-anxiety board. For another, I will no longer be just a hopeful, school-less applicant -- anything stupid I might say will reflect poorly on my program!

So yeah, I guess I'll take my cue from previous generations on the board and mostly disappear next season, making way for the new batch. It's the circle of life and all that.

Whoa thats a lot of pressure!

I agree with the spirit of what you're saying. Seriously though, 'public figure' might be a bit excessive ,

I'd guess it's more because everyone has shifted from obsessing on this forum to focusing on preparing for their coming studies (all that moving, housing, visas, etc.) rather than because of your discussion of the privacy issue.

Hi all
Have been a lurker in this forum for some time now. But for the benefit of others like me, here is my profile as well

GRE: Q 800/800; V 680/80; Essay 4.5/6.0
Nationality: Indian

Qualification:
B.E. (Chem engineering.) - College usually ranked among the top 10 in India (CGPA: 3.8)
M.E. (Chem engineering.) - Fairly well-known research institute, also in India (CGPA: 3.4)

Work Experience:
1 yr: Software developer in a software co. (among the 10 largest software companies in the world - worked before Masters degree here)
10+ months: Process engineer in an Energy co. (among the 10 largest companies in the world - working here now, after Masters degree) - will be resigning soon though

Admit:
ESSEC Phd in marketing (quantitative track)

Had to withdraw from an interview call from HEC Paris, since I had to confirm with ESSEC before the interview date itself, and couldn't afford to gamble

(only 2 applications)

Asides: Had absolutely zero exposure to any kind of management studies (except for a mandatory industrial engineering/economics course in undergraduate studies), but significant exposure to scientific research and math modeling, though no publication from my work (yet!).

Just posting this so that other people with backgrounds like mine do not hesitate to apply .

P.S. Is it possible to find out who are the current PhD students at ESSEC? I couldn't even find a facebook group for them
Is anyone else on this forum joining ESSEC in Sept 2009?

Hey, I am also from India, doing Engineering from Jadavpur University,Kolkata. but I am wondering how you got your GPA in the scale of 4. I have not heard any university following the same system.

By the way I am also applying for ESSEC-sept 2010. So did you get any scholarships or something?
