Hi! can anyone tell me how exactly does one find conferences to apply to? both graduate conferences and not.....is there any website? most of the academies in my field make you pay to join them and needless to say supervisors are not much help. I'm in International Business if it helps... thanks!

I usually ask my professors. The other way is to use google, find conferences and then to see if they are of good quality and legit, see which organizations, schools or academics they are affiliated with.

Talk to your faculty, as zshfryoh1 also recommends. Just like journals, there are "A" conferences, "B" conferences, etc. Paper submissions, discussants, etc, follow accordingly.

SSRN also keeps good listings of secondary conferences. For some top conferences (like NBER) you need to be on an invitation list.

I'm not sure about your specific field of business scholarship, but I am attending my first International Academy of Management Annual Conference in Chicago this August!!! I'm just going for exposure (networking?) as well as explore Kellogg, Booth, Eli Broad, and Ross as possible PhD schools. If you're looking for submission without prior conference presentation experience (as I will be trying to submit my undergraduate thesis in about a year), you might want to apply for a regional conference first (e.g. for me, it would be the Southern Management Association Conference), just to get your feet wet.

Anyone else going to be at AOM or in Chicago/East Lansing/Ann Arbor in August? I would love to talk to some other prospective PhD students! Also, I was able to negotiate with a local to sublease a 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom apartment overlooking the famous Navy Pier, just a few blocks away from the conference! So, if anyone is still looking for nearby accommodations, I'd be more than happy to split the week's rate with somebody! I would say $500 for the week isn't bad considering the location! Just let me know!
