do u have idea on what is the probability of getting addimitted in the schools mentioned by PhDfinanceASPI with the following profile? Academic performance Bachelors: 52 percent MASters: 58 Percent Teaching for BBA and MBA: 5 years (Also guided theses and project works of the students) Working in related field: 7 years in a responsible position including research and publication Research work published: a few; but editor in financial journal (not international) Involved in policy making activities in the financial markets Participated in the international seminars; (about 6 in different countries including US and the topic for all on financial market) Very good students of the professors Good perceptions among the course cordinators and work supervisors GMAT may be in between 550-650 Actually, I don't know what sorts of things are analysed to admit in Phd program, so, I am asking this. Also I am not sure whether the academic performance is ok or not acceptable for the program. Thanks |

well,
undergrad: engineering in elex and telecomm : 76% (from a not so known college in india)... 80% is an exceptional score there postgrad: MBA in finance : 7.1/10 from one of the top 10 schools in india taken courses like financial risk management, behavioral finance, asset allocation, stats, microeco, macroeco, game theory etc.. no research experience bt working in structured finance group of leading rating agency as an analyst for 1.5 yrs... pre-mba work-ex of 1 yr in software.. GMAT: yet to give bt assuming a 750+ score... Research interest - Corporate finance, Asset pricing, Derivatives, credit risk |

Even with a 750+ GMAT I don't think the schools you listed are actually safeties. For instance, Michigan State recieved 100-200 applications and admits 4-6 people each year which implies an acceptance rate of less than 6%. |

@Elisa Pandey
Most Phd applicants have a very strong academic background.Your undergrad and graduate grades are low which means that it will be tough for you to make a case for admission. Most Phd applicants even to schools that you have mentioned have high GPA and a GMAT score above 700. Also, even lower ranked school expect a GMAT score close to 680. So, my advise would be to crack GMAT-700 plus and build a strong application statement. |

I have emailed and spoken to some people who have been related to the Phd program and the overwhelming opinion is that work ex don't count.They are looking for candidates who are strong academically and are willing to do purely theoretical work.Therefore, work ex which may be good for someone looking for an MBA ,does not tell anything about your ability to handle tough coursework.When it comes to Finance, they are looking for candidates with a strong background in Applied Maths and Economics.
