PhD Finance: Coping up with Maths Pre-Req

Dear All:

Like many of you, I am also intending to earn a PhD in Finance but the pre-requisites are Maths & Econometrics. I have a MBA (Graduated- 2003) in Finance and currenly working as a lecturer in a top rank universitiy in Pakistan.

I have 2 options to cope up with Maths & Eco Pre-req's:

1. Get enrolled in MSc. Maths program and complete the degree. Earlier I have a 2 year BSc. in Maths & Physics. Applied Maths (A-), Pure Maths B+, Physics (A).

2. To attend MSc. Maths lectures without enrolling and the respective teacher will giva a certificate mentioning my grade in the course. (I have talked to a few professors and attended lectures of one professor with over 200 publications in Math )

Me a bit confused: do the universities in US accept such certificates and course grades? or Should I enroll in a proper MSc. program?

i have not heard of such certificate (2). if i were you, i would choose option 1 (IMO). you won't be wasting time there since many of finance phd applicants (considering the field's competitiveness) do some other degrees before entering.
p.s. i don't think your mba will get anything for you in this case.

@ Santacanyon: Thanks for your input, but the problem is that we dont have "non-degree student" scheme over here in Pakistan in which official transcripts are issued by Controller Examination.

Yeah MSc. Mathematics or MSc. Econometrics and Statistics will be the better option.
