too late for PhD?

Hi,

I'm 36, and would really like to do a PhD in business. Does anyone have an idea how much my old age would be considered a drawback by the admitting committee?

thanks,
Rotem

I'm 38 and am currently in Ph.D. program, 1st year. But for sure it's not as easy as the younger ones to get an admission...

A guy that started the PhD with me this year is close to your age, and he got in at a few different schools.

It can be tougher, but it is certainly not too late.

I think the main drawback is not going to come from your age necessarily but from some difficulties in your application that result from your age. Most schools want academic letters of recomendation, high GMAT (or GRE depending on topic), as well as relevant course experience. People who start later mid-career with a phd might having these things and having the time to prepare for the GMAT to be difficult. That being said. I think you should still go for it. Age is not the biggest drawback. It just doesn't really help that much.

Good luck!

Relax! Age is just a number! I am 41 and will aplly next year for PhD! I feel as young as a new born--studying GRE reduced my age!
