Research Methodology in SOP
I'm first year PhD student but am considering another programs. One of professors in the program has suggested me to update my application with better methodological approach to the research interest. If I'm successful in adding up the part and improving the application subsequently, I think the chance would be higher though I'll be still in the competition anyway.
Then, my question is how you guys go with it. In other words, how much focus/detail in terms of research methodology to a specific research interest is given in your statement of purpose. I understand that research fit is the important factor for our admissions, but sometimes, professors want to see your depth. And it was the case for me last year. Thanks for your comments in advance. |

Providing details on the research methodology would be very helpful. Be sure, however, that the details are ones that anyone would understand (not too specific to your subfield or topic). Some pre-phd's don't know how research is done at all, so signalling a difference would definitely play in your favor.
