Type of Undergrad: Well known LAC, no PhD department Undergrad GPA: 3.81 / 4.00 GRE: 790 Q Math Courses: Calculus I (A-), Calculus II (A), Calculus III (A), Statistics (A), Linear Algebra (A) Relevant Courses: Corporate Finance (B), Advanced Corporate Finance (A), Security Analysis (A), Valuation (A-), Finance Risk (A), Financial Markets (A), Accounting (A-) Letters of Recommendation: 1 - U Toronto, 1 - Michigan State, 1 - Princeton Research Experience: 1 Semester as a full time RA (not published - funding fell through) worked part-time gathering data for another non published work Teaching Experience: TA 2 semesters Research Interests: Corporate Finance Statement of Purpose: Should be good, 5 acts in in length with a lovaeable cast of characters and a suspensful ending perhaps Schools Applying: Harvard (HBS - Business Economics), Yale (GSB - Finance), Boston College (GSB - Finance), Stanford (GSB - Finance), NYU (Stern - Finance), Columbia (GSB - Finance), Penn State (GSB - Finance), Pittsburgh (GSB - Finance), MIT (GSB - Finance), Cornell (GSB - Finance), U Penn (GSB - Finance), Chicago (GSB - Finance), University of Connecticut (GSB - Finance), UCLA (GSB - Finance) Given my background above and the schools I am applying to should I add more schools, take some off? I think you should probably add a few more schools outside the top level. UGA, Florida, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Indiana, Purdue, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Washington, Texas and ASU would be solid additions.

Just a caution...U of Florida won't take any new apps this year. I guess they go bi-annual base. ASU hasn't posted (with my best knowledge...) the application info on the phd admission. It went through tough budget cutting last year. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the insight.
Besides going to the west coast for a top school I am not willing to move this year for a program that is not a top program, I am willing to sit out and reapply next year. As far as my profile and the schools listed how are my chances at Top 10, 20, 50? |

You don't have much research experience, grad courses, or proof based math.
Unless your letter of reference are very good I think you are going to have difficulty breaking into the top 10, and that you should apply to fewer top ten schools and more top 25. |
