Oh dear, I think I should clarify that my no was in regards to whether asst., assoc., or full professor rank matter in choosing your advisor/school. I would agree with possible phd that asst. professors can bring a lot to the table. I would also stand by my last comments about the two dangers you might face in your situation.

In Research Interests part of statement of purpose, I want to know what is the optimum number of topics to be included. Secondluy, should one stick to only one area of accounting or can he provide topics form all areas. For instance, I am interested in taxation, AIS, financial staement analysis, corporate governance, forensic accounting, earning management. Is it advisable to quote all these in statement of purpose. Will it show lack of focus?
Please advise

First, I don't think there is a limit per say to the number of topics you say that you are interested in. That being said, your list seems to cover a wide variety of topics in accounting. If you could find a school/mentor that could help you in all those areas then you could do that. I believe, however, most schools don't have professors who research all of those areas. Most professors spend their entire career in only one of those topics.
