Old Timer GRE Score and Study Material Used: Hope it helps!

Well, after weeks of study, I took the GRE today. Nice that you get your score right away.

Us old dogs (I'm 41) still remember the No. 2 pencil and filling in the bubble sheets.

Since I know there are some other old timers lurking on the board, I wanted to share my scores.

My initial practice tests were in the 1000 - 1100 point range.

I put in quite a bit of time studying (lots of study and practice tests), but considering that I have been out of school for over ten years, it was necessary

Total: 1430 (My goal was 1500 +/- 30)
Verbal: 680
Quant: 750

I used the following materials:

Primary
  1. GRE 10th Edition Manual (Very good indicator of final score)
  2. GRE Powerprep Software (Very good indicator of final score)
  3. 800score (5 practice GRE tests, scores lower than final)
  4. Barron's GRE Verbal Book (From local libraryl)
Secondary
  1. Princeton Review Manual from local library (4 online tests)
  2. Peterson's Review manuals from the local library (Vocab emails)
  3. GREBIBLE Interactive Software (3000 vocabulary words!)
  4. GMAT Quantitative Test Book
As I am applying for Management/OB programs my goal was to have a competitive score to make the initial cut and be considered a good candidate. I believe I have achieved that for my targeted programs.

Good luck to all, and I hope the list of study materials is useful!

Do many OB/Mgt programs accept the GRE?

Yes! I'm applying to OB/management and all the programs I wanted to apply at accept GRE (admittedly a couple prefer the GMAT, but will accept GRE).

Sorry you didn't reach your target score, haread, but congratulations on a very good score nonetheless!

Best wishes on your apps. Where are you looking at going?

Well, there are the usual suspects (Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, Michigan) but also schools such as UT Austin, University of Minnesota and University of Washington, and University of Illinois.

I am focusing focusing solely on Management and OB programs (Tier 1 and Tier 2 programs). I am currently narrowing my list down to 20 schools as my career goal and interest is to leave the practitioner space and become a scholar. Of key importance is fit, and a faculty I can learn from.

Not getting into a program is not an option for my family and I.

You have to look at the actual admissions requirements. The GRE seems to be pretty standard for management programs, as it is a research degree not a practitioners degree. I had originally planned to take the GMAT, but upon reviewing requirements the GRE was standard at more places, so I focused there.
