I think you should at first try to admit MIS or MS in Information Systems in USA or Canada. After that easy to think about PhD.

You didn't mention what you studied for your undergraduate.
Your GMAT score could be very problematic.

You'll need to provide more information about your background and what your interests are.

As it stands now, I think getting into a PhD program in North America would be very difficult for you.

    Also,
I have conditional acceptance for PhD from EBS (Edinburgh Business School) in UK , what is your advice?
    PhD in Management Science
What happened to this? Did you end up not getting accepted? Did you turn them down?

Not many schools in the US will be willing to accept that, unfortunately that is way below cutoff.

Your TOEFL and especially your GMAT score are way below the minimum required scores. You must at least have a 600 GMAT score to be even considered for admission!

I went to Texas-Pan American for my under-grad/MBA and it gets applicants in the 500ish range and has Dr. Koong does a spectacular job of training his students to publish IS journals.

Baylor University, Hankamer School of Business
New Hampshire, University of, Whittemore School of Business and Economics
Southern Illinois University Carbondale, College of Business and Administration
Texas A&M Int'l University, College of Business Administration
Toledo, University of, College of Business Administration

All have an average GMAT score below 590!

Mississippi State University, College of Business Mississippi State, MS 100
New Mexico State University, College of Business Las Cruces, NM 100
North Carolina at Greensboro, University of, Joseph M. Bryan School of Business and Economics Greensboro, NC 100
Rensselaer Polytechnic Inst, Lally School of Management and Tech Troy, NY 100
Texas at El Paso, University of, College of Business Administration El Paso, TX 100
Wayne State University, School of Business Administration Detroit, MI 100

All have an average GMAT between 590 and 620

I can't speak to the availability of an MIS program in each of these schools; but I can' say, by my math, all of these schools are willing to accept a GMAT under 600.

Thank you Rohny for the info. We're talking about PhD programs and his GMAT score is the in "low" 500. Also, of the schools you mentioned that have averageGMAT score below 590, Mississippi state, North Carolina Greensboro, RPI and Wayne State offer PhD in MIS. But none of them are decent or even OK programs. I'm saying it, based on their placement and publication records in MIS area.

It depends on the people that work there and who you are. I'm not questioning that, for you, not really having much hope of publishing in MISQ means it's somewhere you don't want to be. But your Idea of not-OK is the fulfillment someone with a mid-500's dream of teaching at a university and doing research. I would, though, agree: he should study hard and do his best on that GMAT.

While the pay for MIS is kind-of-low if you can show you can consistently produce B-journal articles you'll have a job at many schools that are trying to hang-on-to or get AACSB accreditation.

Hello Amgad, based on your TOEFL and low score in the verbal section of the GMAT, I would say you really need to take a year or so to work on improving your language skills. Not just because it would be very challenging to get admitted into a decent program, but even if you do get accepted, you would be at a huge disadvantage compared to other students. As a PhD student, you need to be able to both assimilate and synthesize ideas in English and transfer these ideas to paper in a coherent and robust fashion, not to mention participating in class discussions and conference presentations.

Another thing, I'm Egyptian too and I had to wrestle with this problem, school reputation. Unfortunately, Egyptian schools are not on the radar of most adcoms, even the AUC. Hence, you need to compensate for that with a high GMAT/GRE scores or research experience ( also hard to come by in Egypt).

so, my two cents are, take at least a year to work really hard on your language skills, try to get some research experience and re-take the GMAT. Good Luck
