Recommended Posts

Hello aspiring PhD applicants! People in prior years have used a thread such as this as a place to ask short questions, throw up their admission stats, give out information, or simply as a tool to write about all the stressors associated with the PhD application process! This seems as a good time as any to throw this thread up and offer a place for aspiring applicants to congregate around discussion of the application process!

You can also view prior years 'Application Sweating' threads here http://www.www.urch.com/forums/phd-business/152661-welcome-forum-please-start-here-important-past-threads.html.

Feel free to post any information you feel comfortable sharing, for example posts from prior years have included simple application information such as:

Program Applying to:

Age:

GMAT Scores:

Undegrad degree / GPA:

Grad degree / GPA:

Work Experience:

Teaching Experience:

Research Experience:

LOR:

Research Interests:

Schools Considering to Apply to:

An example from previous year is below:

Program: Marketing (CB)

Age: 28GMAT: 700 Q48 V 39 AWA 6

Undergrad: 2 degrees in the hard sciences unknown but accredited private college

GPA: 3.4 (low, but graduated in top 10% of the class)

Grad: M.S. in Marketing top 20 ranked well known private college

GPA: 4.0

Work experience (as unimportant as it is): 5 years in Pharma various roles

Teaching experience: TA for some undergrad science, math and marketing courses

Research experience: 7 conference presentations from chemistry and math, 1 current R&R as first author, 1 submitted paper as first author, 2 submissions as third author (I also published a poem when I was in third grade, but I don't think adcoms care about that).

Letter of recommendation: 3 extremely positive. All professors I've done marketing research with, all currently publishing

Research interests: Consumer psychology, specifically judgement and decision making in relation to psychological factors

Schools in consideration: I'm not particularly comfortable giving out all of the schools, but there is a smattering across all levels with strong research interests with specific professors at each. Some of highlights include CMU (which I realistically understand I won't get in to), Duke (see CMU), CU, Buffalo, Florida, Florida State, Wisconsin, and South Carolina.

Feel free to share any information you are comfortable sharing or none at all. The strength of the community is when applicants help each other out in providing information (remember, this is all individual opinions, so take it for what its worth) about the application process!

Best of luck to this years applicants!

Anyone stressed yet?

I was on the edge of a nervous breakdown last week. Part of it was food poisoning, but I'm pretty sure the other part was nerves as I penned the first and second drafts of my master SOP. I feel a lot better this week. Now I'm working on tweaking my SOP for each school and updating my resume and converting it into a CV for a few schools.

Haha! Thanks Eventualprof! I'm trying to get all my apps finished by Thanksgiving so I can relax. I was so tense last week while trying to write my SOP that I couldn't eat for two days.

Take it easy, dude. You're going to do fine. Be concerned enough to make a solid impression at each school, but not so worried that you make yourself unable to eat.

Hey guys. Just a quick request from fellow Urchin. It's still early in the application season, so no stress, but I know that we have a lot of lurkers on this site. If you never want to post anything ever, that's totally fine, but if you do want to post something, I'd like to request that it be in this thread. By all means keep out whatever information you deem as too personal, but please post your profile here.

Future applicants gain a lot of knowledge and stress relief from being able to quickly compare their profiles with successful applicants from previous years. Basically this is a call out to the hundreds of visitors we get on this site to please consider participating in this thread. I know when I was applying the more information I could get the better.
