Fall 2018 - OB PHD applicant

    Sponsored Ad:
    Hi all,

I am applying this round for organizational behavior type programs. I thought it would be helpful if we applicants connected with each other, and braced the anxiety-inducing waiting period together!

    I have applied to:
HBS OB, Stanford MS&E, Tepper OB, Sloan OS, INSEAD OB, and Olin (washu) OB

Anybody else apply to any of these?

I'm also very unfamiliar with european (non-us) phd programs. Does anybody have insight about graduate student life in Europe?

Hi! I'm also applying to OB programs (OB @ HBS & Stanford GSB; Management @ Berkeley & UCSD; Decision-Making / Behavioral Science @ Wharton, UChicago, UCLA & Carnegie Mellon). I have personal experience with the European school you're applying to, so let me know if you have any specific questions.

Hey Cilantrophy! Looks like we have some overlap in schools, but i'm aimed more for sociological research and you more for psychological/behavioral research. Good luck with the process!

As for european schools.. what do you think is are non-obvious differences between the typical European and American grad student life experiences (e.g., quality of living, studying, working, social life, financials, professional relationships, etc.)

I made a post previously about PhD's in Europe: http://www.urch.com/forums/phd-busin...hd-europe.html

The top schools will be very connected to good schools all over the world. My school regularly has professors visiting from top institutions the US, Europe, Asia, Australia, etc. I was drawn to my school because the PhD program is small in size, so you interact very closely with professors -- and as such they are really invested in your success.

To be honest, I think quality of living is better than in the US - my student ID gives me free access to the city's subway system so I can go anywhere for free. Rent/COL in general is lower than the US. I think there was a stigma in the past about doing a PhD in Europe (that it wasn't as rigorous or something) - but given the productivity of my department (and other top 10 departments in Europe) - I think attitudes are shifting. INSEAD is a great program. One main difference is most European programs require you to have a Master's degree. I know of a few that don't have this as a rule -- but because the typical program is 4 years they want you to have some grad school exposure because things move fast.
