Phone Call or Email?

Hello!

I just completed the process of applying to 5 different universities for Ph.D. in Finance. My next step is to give my application a voice, however, I will not be able to visit these universities.

I need you recommendation here, is it more effective to call the chair of the finance dept or to email him? and what are the main aspects I should mention?

Thanks, and wish you all luck in your academic life.

I would say neither. You should have contacted the prof before submitting the apps, rather than after.

Furthermore, the department chair may not be the one reading thru your apps.

Good luck!

Actually, while applying for my MBA I didn't make any contact with any of the 8 universities I applied for, and I got accepted from all of them, therefore, I thought that applying for the PhD will be the same, and I just discovered that it isn't.

I still have some time for the deadline.

Your help is very appreciated.

I just received an interview request from a school that I'm applying to (Top 20 in terms of MBA ranking, Top 5 in terms of the field of study). I didn't contact any prof from this school. Neither did I mention any names in my SOP.

Between a phone call and email, I would choose the latter IF you really want to make contact.

You were told by the department you're applying to?

Nope, it was only a recommendation by a PhD student.
