Friends Eval

Hello...I told a friend of mine I would post his profile for evaluation...

Undergraduate: Liberal Arts (Top 25)
Major: Finance
Major GPA: 3.8
Overall GPA: 3.8
Last 60 Credits GPA: 3.98
GMAT: 770
GRE: 800Q, 700V, 5.5

Relevant Coursework: Statistics (A), Calc I-III (A), Linear Algebra (A), Differential Equations (A), Partial Differential Equations (A), Number Theory (A), Real Analysis (A), Complex Analysis (Real Analysis II) (A), Point-Set Topology (A), Introduction to Logic (proof) (A), Intermediate Macro (A), Intermediate Micro (A), Econometrics (A), Game Theory (A), Security Analysis (A), Advanced Corporate Finance (A-).

Research Assistant for 2 years on 2 different projects. One project was his own which was published in a so-so journal.

LoR - Good from pretty good professors

TA - One Semester

Guest Lectured - 2 times in an investments course. Once on time value of money and another on stock valuation.

SoP - I do not think he is done but I would imagine it will be good because he a good writer and a good person.

Others - I know his LoR will be great because he is always hailed by the professors here. For example, today he was introduced to guest lecture at my class and was introduced as "First-Name Last-Name, one of the brightest people at X College.

He would like to know, and I am interested, what his chances are and where for a Finance PhD because he is taking the 2007-2008 school year off to travel, do applications, and just relax.

shootermcgavin7 is almost a TestMagic guru.
I should copy/paste this explanation----your friend has a great profile and should shoot for top schools.

That said, except for just a handful, most programs only take 2-5 new PhD students in Finance every year....it tends to be more of a crapshoot than Econ.
