I'm sure there must be some thread on this, or links to handy web sites but I couldn't find them.

What are good questions to ask a potential phd program when going for a visit?

1. Percentage of acceptance? how many applies, how many admitted per year?
2. Attrition rate of graduates? how many graduate? in timely manner?
3. What does the school cutoff look like? most schools have them but don't inform you or publish them. For example, if you send your GMAT score of 650 to some schools, you will get an automatic rejection.
4. What type of school/program is it? empirical? theoretical? etc.
5. What are the current areas of research?
6. How many students admitted per year? stipend size? how many years do you receive it? some schools only give for 4 years, others for 5 years. Some schools offer financial support during the summers, others might not have that option, etc.
7. Where do graduates get hired at? or end up at?
8. many more good questions to ask.
