Profiles and Results 2007: Finance PhD
Same thing is done in the econ forum. So, why not in the finance forum. This will help a lot of people as there are a lot of newcomers. Please post your profiles here. Type of Undergrad: no undergrad in our system: you get a master after 5 years
Undergrad GPA:
Type of Grad: MSc Economics (Finance), home country's 2nd best university
Grad GPA: 3.99
GRE: Q 750 V 630 W 5.5
Math Courses: linear algebra, matrices, probability theory, calculus
Econ Courses: 2 heavy courses in standard micro, 2 in macro, 1 in dynamic macro, public finance, money theory, international monetary integration, some regional economics
Relevant Finance Courses: basic corporate finance and asset pricing (3 courses altogether), financial mathematics, financial valuation and planning
Other Courses: derivatives, operations research and management, statistics (3 courses), econometrics, accounting (3)
Letters of Recommendation: one from the dean, one from an institute chair and one from my maths professor
Research Experience: not bad, had some research papers and one decent publication in finance, and some research experience in spatial statistics

This is my first post and I would definitely appreciate some kind of feedback on my current status.I am a research Associate in a University in India and would like to do my PhD in Finance.
PROFILE:
MBA Finance,University topper with 75 %
Bachelor of Commerce,University 2nd topper
GMAT:
Verbal:25/37% percentile
Quant:45/77%
Total:580/62%
AW:4.5/49%
Relevant Finance Courses:Financial Engineering,Insurance & Risk Management,Banking,Project management,Equity analysis and other derivative instruments
Letters of Recommendation: The HOD of the MBA dept of the University wherein i work as an RA,A Professor and a Reader of the same dept.The HOD is quite a relatively known name in Finance.
Research Experience:around 14 mths
Teaching Experience:around 1 yr:Financial Management,Accounting,Managerial effectiveness & Busibness communication,Adverstising etc.
Research Interests:Asset Pricing models
SOP: should be okay
Other:Am sitting for my Toefl this week.

Since my drawback is that i do not have a strong maths background and also my GMAT score is not 600+,what would you suggest on the kind of schools i should apply for?
have shortlisted:Temple University(Fox School,USA),Syracuse(M.Whitman,USA),Calgary(Haskay ne School,Canada),Nanyang Technological University(Singapore) and University of Hong Kong.
Will apply to them very soon.
Could I have any suggestion from your end?How is the Fox School(nobody as such has been able to give me substantial feedback about the school)?I got to hear of it from my friend whose husband is doing post-docs there .

Hey...I'm from Canada and Univerity of Alberta tends to prefer high GMAT score in the range of 80 percentile to 90th percentile....Just thought I'd let you know...Their website actually says 90th % and above !

Thanks for the feedback..i understand the univs require a 80+percentile.
I guess i shall just need to try my luck!
any ideas on Fox school?anyone??

GMAT: not taken yet
Math Courses: Caculus I, II, III, Probability, Math Stat, Linear Algebra, Real Analysis(Intro to Analysis), Differential Equations(Advanced Cal I)
Econ Courses: Micro theory, Macro theory, Econometric I, Econometric II, Financial Economics, Int'l Trade & Investment, History of Econ Thoughts, Econ Stat

Relevant Finance Courses:None
Other Courses:Bunch of Asian studies course
Letters of Recommendation: 1-Econ Prof. not so much publication, but corporate experience (Economic chairman at Big 4 acct firm)& public appearance(media, not a pundit though)

Research Experience: want to work as a research assistant
Teaching Experience: None
Research Interests: Not sure yet, but revisiting theory seems interesting

SOP: Not written yet
Other: CFA level I, II, & III (passed in consecutive 3 yrs since graduation)

RESULTS:
Not even sure where to apply; I need to find out what topic in finance that I'm really interested in(I know that I like micro better than macro); want to find good MA Econ/MA Fin program
