I don't understand which are your goals.
Phd Finance? sincerely when I read people claiming 4 years of research experience during the undergraduate years or something like that.. I am a little bit puzzled. In my opinion four years of research experience means four years of full time research as a research associate, if in the meanwhile you are studying I don't see how they can be full time. |

i am interested in obtaining a phd in marketing.
my understanding is that much of the research in the field draws from research being done in the cognitive sciences, including neuroscience, and i am hoping to explore issues in the cognitive sciences in terms of their marketing applications. the main reasons i decided to do an ms in financial engineering was to 1) develop an understanding in mathematical modeling 2) develop general business knowledge 3) remain occupied during the year i apply to phd programs. i am hoping that the FE material will have some use in a marketing program. i believe that quantitative modeling is popular in marketing research but i don't know whether it is similar to the type of modeling done in finance. i didn't intend to claim 4 years of full-time research experience. my experience consists predominantly of part-time work although i worked full time during the summer sessions and had the liberty of managing my own projects. i hope this clears things up. |

Looks like a good profile. The one advice for you would be that you may want to be clear in your SOP as to how your background has really prepared you for a doctoral program in marketing; how all of this has really been a long prep even though you may not have consciously intended it that way. Also be clear whether you want to approach the quantitative data-modelling aspects of marketing with its grounding in economics or the cognitive side of it which has its roots in psychology. That will help in the process.
