I have inquired to if the schools of my interest prefer a GRE or GMAT, but it is still not clear...
I was wondering if anyone had any insight... This is my last semester in an MBA program, assumed B+ avg upon graduation, am not very strong on verbal but will have a month or two this summer to JUST FOCUS on test prep. I am applying to programs for admission Fall '09. When I took my GMAT's I only studied for 4 weeks, and the only section I was not well in was Verbal. 5 Years ago I took a GRE to see my options, I did not take a course and did VERY well in every section but Math. I know I will need to brush up on my Quant sections no matter what, but the Verbal is my weak point... Any suggestions on which test is easier to master in the shortest time? also which, if either, might be weighed more than the other? |

RockSteady, I generally think the GMAT is easier although I haven't taken it myself. I took the GRE and it wasn't bad either. For the verbal, try to go through one of the big general lists and you will really see a difference in your score. But you need time to really do well on the verbal, so the GMAT might be a better idea, but I am not quite sure. My suggestion is to generally choose the one that requires less vocabulary. In that case, you can focus on reading comprehension and all that good stuff that you can prepare for in a short time.
By the way, I am considering a PhD in org. behavior as well. My bachelor's degree is in economics and mathematics and I am now joining a sociology MA program - do you think that's a good background for org. behavior? Thanks and good luck with your test prep! -SOCIO P.S. feel free to pm me! |

Most programs will accept either but there are still some that require the GMAT. As far as I know, Stanford is the only one that requires the GRE.
I think GMAT is a moderate and fair test. If you study, you know you will do well. However, for GRE verbal, you can memorize 1000 words and get a totally different set of 100 in the test. I would definetely go with GMAT. BTW, Business Schools don't really look at your verbal scores. |
