Columbia Finance PhD Rejections

From the Grad Cafe you can see that a bunch of rejections to the Finance PhD program at Columbia went out today, including mine. Good luck to those of you still in the running.

I did not even apply there since I knew it was tough... went to visit there in November and I got that impression...

anyway, this seems to open the phd in finance admissions/rejections.. I am thrilled for the next weeks.

Hocking is on the way!
I am not willing to say from what schools, but I can say that I received two offers this week for full funding in Finance PhD Programs. These two programs would be Finance programs ranked somewhere between 20-40. So, I would guess that we are down to crunch time as far as programs making decisions. They all want to be quick at this point because they know applicants are starting to be pulled out of the pack and given seats at places.

Don't sweat it if you don't get into a top-ranked Finance PhD program. Finance PhD Program rankings are not as important as they are for Economics PhD Programs. The bottom line is that when you graduate you will be in a very small field of new PhD job candidates, and you will have plenty of job opportunities with a salary in in the $140-$170 range (assuming you are looking at Research Universities, and you have a decent research paper under review or published already). The worst case job opportunity scenario is a non-PhD granting research university making somewhere in the $120-$140 range.

These are hard facts, not estimates.
