Everyone,

I just received an email from a professor of NYU Stern wishing for a telephonic interview. Apparently, he tried calling me but couldn't get through - I had put the wrong STD code (stupid stupid me)

I am trembling !! This may be the best shot that I have.

What do I do? How do I prepare? What should I ask? More importantly, what would they ask?

Yes, I was just scouring through it now. The email is actually pretty short. Just a confirmation of the time and some basic clarifications about my background.

This probably means that I have made some kind of a wait list. I don't have prestige working in my favor so I reckon I have to give it all the histrionics that I can muster.

You're obviously very excited about research, so that will carry you far (not just the interview but afterwards). Talk about your research and what you know to the extent that you can, convey the passion you really have, and you will have done the best you can for the interview.

Thanks guys,

I will try my best and lets see what happens. They only take 3-4 applicants out of more than 100 as evidenced on their website.

This interview probably means that I have made some kind of an internal waitlist about 50 students perhaps. Lets see what happens, I am not that great an interviewee !!

50 students? they are not gonna interview 50 students out of 100...

my guess is that there are no more than 10-2 students interviewed.

Hi , congratulations! Which program did you apply to at Stern? I applied to their Econ program and since i haven't heard anything from them, does it mean that I am out?

No, not 50. As doubtful said, I'm sure it is closer to 10, and perhaps even less than that.
