M.A. Economics (terminal M.A.) at NYU
Will M.A. Economics at NYU (terminal M.A. offered by the Department of Economics, not by Stern) be a good preparation for PhD finance? I know that there was a discussion(?) on econphd.net about whether this program is a formal Econ Master's or a business-oriented (perhaps, more applied) discipline. I guess either would be fine as a preparation for PhD finance.
I see that many people who plan to get MA/MS before applying for PhD finance choose to do MS Finance more often than MA Economics. Is there a good reason for doing so? (funding? MS finance is better for someone looking for to do PhD finance?) Which degree has more exposure in math? Would pure math be better than applied math for admission to PhD? Also, while at NYU website, I found this: PhD Well, I guess this is for someone with EVERYTHING else, but math. It also mentions about minority, but not so much in detail about it(to promote diversity?). Does any of you know why NYU is offering Pre-doctor (non-degree) program(or should I say support)? |
