Ph.D marketing: do waitlists get cleared?

My status:

Waitlisted at: NYU, Emory University, U of Minnesota, U of Wisconsin.

Rejected: Cornell, USC, Michigan, UT-Austin, U-Florida

No news (presumed rejections): Penn. State

Do you think there is a probability of waitlists getting cleared at the above schools? (I've had a chance to interview with only the latter 2, received formal communication from former 2 that I'm on their "hold" list for now and may hear updates by the end of March.)

And lastly: Anyone here (or among ppl. whom you know) got offers from my waitlisted places but don't wanna go there?

PS: I have no idea about my waitlist position at any of these schools or how long generally the waitlists can be. Any leads?

I just accepted Minnesota. Sorry! I am rooting for you at NYU, Wisc, and Emory though!

I'm not sure about the waitlist...but emarald, when did you hear from Michigan?--I've heard nothing from them. I did suffer the same fate from Cornell and Univ of Fl.

Gimpy, I saw your earlier post, did you ever hear anything from Univ of Colorado?

just remembered reading that you are a CB applicant..I got to hear that Minnesota aimed at 1 CB, 1 Quant (I may be wrong here!)

you CB or quant? Does the quant waitlist work seperate from the CB waitlist? or is it all over for me there? (I'm quant)

I heard from U-Mich. through postal service a couple of days ago. Found it hard to believe the reason quoted for rejection - I'd not cleared their prescribed cutoff on one section of TOEFL!
If you would like an update, emailing Chris Gale would be an option...

I have no clue what the quant waitlist is like, or if it is even separate from the cb waitlist. You are right though, I am a cb entrant.

I know that doesn't help much...sorry!

You might get an offer from UMN. I, along with a few people, declined their offer. Gimpy's going. (We were all in the same campus visit day thingy.) Good luck to you!

As I said above: I didn't interview with Emory. Just wrote to the grad. coord couple of days ago, who wrote back that I'm on their "hold" list (which would likely come into play if at least some of the 3 offers they've made to applicants are turned down).
