Finance PhD Admission: Numerical Analysis OR Real Analysis?

Now I am planning to take either Numerical Analysis or Real Analysis to strengthen my profile for Finance PhD Admission.
Which one should I take?
Which one is more relevant in PhD level studies in Finance?

Thanks for your comments.

I would say Real Analysis comes before the other, but I could be wrong.

But really, the more, the better...

What sub-field are you planning on doing?

In general, Real Analysis would be more useful, but in certain types of asset pricing Numerical Analysis might be a better choice.

I second doubtful's advice about taking both of them, but If it comes down to taking only one course, then I'd say real analysis.

I mean, a first class in numerical analysis gives you so many hints on solving Least Square Problems... Singular Value Decomposition... error propagation.. and then you usually learn something like Matlab that is extremely useful for a Phd in Finance.

Speaking of Matlab, we have used Maple and SPSS. Now whilst, SPSS is pretty much the norm in most research calculations, what say you people to Maple? Anyone used it?

So Maple is not that preferred an application? Damn. Now I have to learn Matlab.

On another note, this semester I am taking both Real Analysis and Numerical Analysis. Its really tough.
