Finance PhD Admission: Numerical Analysis OR Real Analysis?
Now I am planning to take either Numerical Analysis or Real Analysis to strengthen my profile for Finance PhD Admission.
Which one should I take? Which one is more relevant in PhD level studies in Finance? Thanks for your comments. |

What sub-field are you planning on doing? In general, Real Analysis would be more useful, but in certain types of asset pricing Numerical Analysis might be a better choice. |

I mean, a first class in numerical analysis gives you so many hints on solving Least Square Problems... Singular Value Decomposition... error propagation.. and then you usually learn something like Matlab that is extremely useful for a Phd in Finance.

So Maple is not that preferred an application? Damn. Now I have to learn Matlab.
On another note, this semester I am taking both Real Analysis and Numerical Analysis. Its really tough. |
