University of Toronto Rotman
I'm going to Rotman next year. They have admit days this coming Friday and Saturday -- who's going?
I'm also based in Toronto, and am here now. Would love to meet up with those who's going to Rotman next year. I'm in Ph.D. marketing myself, but wouldn't mind MBAs and Ph.D.'s in finance, accounting, OBHRM, other areas! Private-message me! |

And, my other reasons are quite personal. I went to Minnesota, and the overall faculty (all women on the behavioural side) seems so "motherly." It just lost that academic appeal to me. Plus, oh yeah, I don't mean to put down those students, but the current students at Minnesota, their academic standards aren't as high, I must say. But again, I have a long rationale to back that up; too short post here. |

In terms of strategic management, Toronto has a strong department with a number of impressive people: McGahan, Baum, Silverman (just look at their cites in google scholar as well as their coauthors). I don't know that much about Maryland in that I haven't encountered the work of their faculty as I have with Toronto. I have zero affiliation with Toronto, so in that sense I am an objective observer, but I do like some of what McGahan and Baum have written, so I'm not so objective in that sense.
Minnesota is good as well, comfortably "top 25." |

Interesting, I know that Toronto has brought in many good professors in the past few years. Now they have Silverman, Baum, Sorenson, and McGahan.
So Bauble - you wouldn't count Maryland Strategy in Top 25? Maryland has Ken Smith and Anil Gupta. I would think that you should have encountered Anil Gupta in some of your courses on global strategy, no? The only issue with Toronto would be placing in the US. I know it is different for different departments but overall most of the placement for management seems to take place within Canada. I am not sure if its due to limited opportunities or just the personal preferences of the doctoral students. Quote:
