Background: Finance or Math?
Hi,guys
I want to apply for a Ph.D in Finance in 2008. However, I never had a finance degree before. My profile is like this: GRE: 790 Q, 600 V, 4 MS in Agricultural Economics (Finance Concentration) in the U.S. GPA:4.0/4.0 No paper right now Math courses: I only have Calculus, Statistics on the official transcript, even I took linear algebra, probabilities, game theory etc. in the training for a math contest. BTW, I got the first place award in the National Mathematical Contest in Modeling. Finance(Econ) courses: Corporate Finance, Econometrics, Financial Management, Linear Programming, Micro, Macro I have three semesters before graduation. I want to get a minor in math or finance to make my background look strong. Which minor will help me more? Thanks. Last edited by Schine : 03-29-2008 at 10:14 PM. |

are you from the US?
my point of view after having been in the process for the admission to a Phd in Finance this year. the best thing an applicant should get is a Master in related disciplines to Finance... yours seems good even if it's strange you don't have many math classes on the paper. The minor will help you for sure. I think you could have a shot, but chances are always small. |

math given that you will have exposition to some graduate economics... and my advice is to take the microeconomics graduate sequence if any is offered...
I think that master in economics with real analysis, Numerical Nnalysis and Measure theory plus the sequence is Microeconomics could take you very very high. I know it takes time, but just look at me... I am 29.. now.. |
