So I am considering applying to finance phd programs. What type of programs do I have a shot at?

I graduated from a top 10 school 3 years ago with a degree in math (gpa=3.1). Since then I have been working at a hedge fund, but also taking classes to get a masters in econ (from an ok school) where my gpa is 4.0. I'm also a level III canidate for the CFA. My GMAT is 770.

I'm really interested in the academic side of finance. I'm wondering what range of schools I would be competitive for to get a phd. I did some research in applied math while in school, but no publications.

I think you have a shot.
My advice is .. try to apply to many top30 programs, not just the classical top10 programs which include more uncertainties...
Then try to spend sometime visiting the departments before applying. People there can certainly tell you what to do to maximize your odds.

I second doubtful's advise. Think broadly, then narrow down your choices by field of interest, and then prepare yourself to invest time, money, and your energy for one of the most stressful periods of your life

I know I already said if I don't get in anywhere I'd reapply, but right now the prospect of repeating this whole process again is depressing.

Oh, Lord.....help!
