I think it's a good choice

In general, WUSTL is a better endowed school than Vanderbilt, but I agree with previous comments that other factors are far more important than a straight comparison of those ranking or reputation.

I also would advise talking to doctoral students in confidence and find out more and the faulty student relationship related issues. Don't be surprised to hear horror stories from top ranked program. Some academics are not honest at all, and aren't interested in doing honest research.
