My status now is very embarrassing: one decent offer which I would accept before April 15th, but I am also in the waitlist of Rochester (not sure about the position but they will make the final decision in April 16th!!!).
I am in a similar waitlist of another "superficially great" program, but the hope is as slight as Simon since I am in the next place of the list. I believe it might not be the schools or the applicants' fault, it is due to the suck mechanism. Maybe the programs did not get all the positive feedback or the applicants did not respond at the last minute of April 15th. Maybe the guys ahead of me are waitlisted by top 5, which will lead to a vicious cycle for the rest. Can we call this a domino phenomenon?! I really don't wanna end up with an offer(although it is not bad) given in late Feb and got pissed off by the two programs after months' tortue, which are even worse than first-round rejections. Anyway, good luck! |

Be frank and candid with the folks in the first university from which you have the confirmed offer and explain your situation. What you described is an annual phenomenon which they deal with all the time so it is not something that by any means is unique to you alone.
