Where are you in the process?

Hello!

I am applying this fall for 2009 admissions. I am just curious to see where other people are in the process? I would like to get my applications out in October but right now I am just researching schools and studying for the GMAT.

How about you?

GRE done .. Don't have any LOR writer identified yet ... taking the PhD microecon, econometrics, math for economists sequence in Fall .. hoping that those three profs will be my LOR writers ..

still not decided between Economics versus finance .. once decided, the SOP will follow ..

good luck ..

I'm currently taking math courses (Calc III this fall), and plan to enroll in a Masters program in Fall 2009. I've been out of school for 8 years so I feel the Masters is necessary for me to get research experience and solid LORs. So I'm definitely in the researching phase right now, and have started looking the GMAT over. I'll probably study for and take the GMAT next spring.

That's a good move. I was out of school for 5 to 6 years when I prepared for my applications in 2006. Was thinking of doing a Master for the same reason. In the end, I ended up working on a research project with a prof - not even an official RA. I think the research experience and recommendation from him helped in my application....

Sending the app out in Oct is good but ambitious. The good thing is that if anything goes wrong, you have time take necessary action. The bad thing, though, is that the waiting will be long and painful. Very long and painful.

I was just wondering the same thing. I'm also applying for Fall 2009, and hoping to get my apps out in October. I've got my schools chosen, my LOR writers identified (although I'm from a very small school, so there weren't really many options), and I'm working on my SOP.

I am working on my GRE. I won't send my applications out early, but won't wait till the last moment either. My SOP is almost done; recommenders are identified and ready to go. Right now I am working on RA-ships and trying to memorize words. However, I do not have a final list of programs. I shall wait for the GRE and then gauge my confidence levels.

You may want to get the LOR early. Some profs may be busy once the term starts. So it is good to let them know early that you need X letters.

GMAT or GRE

I gave my GMAT last year - V- 34/72%, Q - 50/95%, total- 700/92%. I have been admitted to one of the PhD program in top 15 business schools (OM). However, I would like to apply again to the top 5 this year.

was thinking about giving GMAT again to up my score - but not quite sure if I should. I am not sure how much can I raise it and also worry that it may be lowered. If it comes lower, can I report the higher one.

Also, considering giving GRE as well but not sure what the cut-offs are. My verbal isnt fantastic. I know some programs require GRE (econ for example) at least in some schools.

Suggestions, please

One piece of advice regarding LORs...request them from several professors if possible and the earlier the better. Of course you'll have your top 3, but sometimes those star professors never get around to it. Have a few "safety" profs just in case. You don't want to have everything in place when apps are due only to find out Prof. X doesn't have your letter ready.
