john71
Do you know any good program in part-time Ph.D. Finance? I've an MBA degree and am working in Asset Management.
oldprogrammer
It's rare to find any part-time PhD program, much less a good one.
john71
how about any PT program that's worth attending?
shootermcgavin7
how about any PT program that's worth attending?  None exist that I know of. At least none that would place into a decent spot upon graduation (whether academic or not). shootermcgavin7
Especially not in any subfield related to asset pricing and/or portfolio theory.
desimba
how about any PT program that's worth attending? Second oldprogrammer's note. Cannot think of a single PT program whose degree is worth the paper that it is printed on.
EE570
There is no way you could do a quality PhD part time. It is a massive time commitment and you need to focus on your research, there is no point in doing one part time.
oldprogrammer
There are quality MS programs out there that would probably allow part-time enrollment. Maybe if you add more details about your present situation and your goals we can help a little better.
john71
My plan is to go back to my country and become a financial adviser to the department of finance in 5 years. I plan to have career experience in Finance in the U.S. while attending a PhD in Finance then I'll be ready for my goal in 5 years.
desimba
Look at the profiles of people who are in the role of a financial advisor to the deptt. of finance and see if any of them has a PT degree or not. As best as I recall, advisors/ politicians in the finance ministry tend to come from the very top-tier schools. Look at India which is where I come from. The present Prime Minister has an Economics PhD from Oxford and the Finance Minister has a Law degree from Harvard Law. Also look at folks in places like Thailand, S Korea and Mexico and you will see the truth of what I am saying. A PT degree as I said is not worth the paper it is printed on. longshot
Rutgers offers a pt PhD in Finance under certain circumstances. It'll probably take longer than 5 years to complete, but it's worth a look.
GMATslayer09
Personally, I think you need to weigh the pros and cons for yourself and decide what the best route is to achieve your goals. I would hestiate to say a part-time PhD is worthless. That is a very large conjecture to make IMO. It depends what you want to do when you're done and if it will help you accomplish your goals.
