How to argue the early deadline of an offer?
Hello, everyone! I got an offer which requires me to response before early March. As this deadline is approaching, I still cannot decide since there is no news from other schools. Can I request them to give me more time to make decision? How to argue deadline? Thanks!

I just wondered... suppose you told them that you accept their offer. But two weeks later you call them and say that you changed your mind. What would happen?

I am in a similar situation. CEMFI didnt offer me financial aid and their offer has a deadline, which is too early for me to hear from many PhDs... I was thinking to ask them if they can offer me a scholarship in case someone renounces, and if they do, accept. Advices?

But my master offer gives me financial aid. The problem is I prefer to go to Ph.D. program directly. |

I agree that you should try asking for more time. I had a similar situation last year where one master's program wanted me to commit before I had heard from anyone else. I asked for more time and they extended the deadline. They seemed very used to the situation. |

If the deadline is before the fifteenth of April you're best off accepting as you can withdraw without penalty and take up an offer elsewhere because they're not in the 'Council of Graduate School'.
They know what's going on so they'll expect some students to withdraw after accepting. If you do get end up getting a better offer you should withdraw straight away though because there are sure to be others waiting for funding. I was in a similar situation last year with UBC as another school, which I would have preffered to attend, strongly hinted that they'd provide me with funding but weren't going to announce until the start of April; well after UBC's deadline. I very nearly rejected UBC and i'm glad that I didn't because the other school didn't come through in the end. |
