Flyouts questions
U of Chicago and Northwestern's flyouts are both on April 3rd, and they happen at more or less the same times. Why couldn't they have communicated better and arranged a compromise?
Anyway, my question is, which flyout should I go to? I'm interested in micro theory, labour and econometrics, but I can't be absolutely sure that this is what I will want to specialize in. Which place would you prefer to go to in general, assuming you were funded at both? |

I might be able to make something like that work, but I don't have a car and I'm from Massachusetts. Also, Northwestern's starts at 11 and ends at 7, while Chicago's starts "with a breakfast" and ends with a reception at 5pm, so the overlap is almost perfect.
Even given my interest in micro theory? And what of U Chicago's low retention rate? |

Fairly sure there is public transportation between the two. I would visit both. I'm sure they can work around the fact that you want to see both schools when they schedule you to speak with faculty.
And congrats on both your admits, 2 great schools!

Are they funding your transportation? If so, then you could have 1 pay the airfare, and have the other pay for you to take a taxi from 1 to the other (since that probably be less expensive than round-trip airfare assuming you're not from the area). You could also try to see whether you could meet with Profs, advisors, current students, etc, either the day before or the day after at 1 of the schools.

There is public transit between the two of them and from the airport. However, it will probably take longer to get around than you might like - so you'd do yourself better to just rent a car when you get there.
