Anybody apply for the Javits Fellowship?

    Hi,

Just wondering if anybody on this thread applied for the Jacob K. Javits fellowship. Results are suposed to be out, but itīs through snail mail so who knows when people will find out. The deadline for award announcement was march 1st...

Hey scrobles, I'm sorry to say I don't have an answer for you, but a question. Do you expect the Javits fellowship to help with your MIT application, as it is said the NSF does? Just curious, as the Javits just isn't mentioned all that much around here.

By the way, I'm sure you'll tire of hearing this eventually but, congrats on your admits; those are some amazing offers. I mean DAMN.

i dont expect it to help me get in anywhere, but as the stipend is as large as the NSF I really hope I do get one. Chances are slim as the website says there are only 43 this year, for all Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences subjects, but I'm hopeful.

Thanks for the congrats. It's hard to get tired of feeling happy.

It is definitely a nice stipend, and I think it lasts a year longer as well (48 months, right?).

I looked down the list for last year and only saw one economics student, which I guess could mean either that they don't get many applying, or there is an even stronger bias towards humanities/arts than they say. Either way, best of luck!

    thanks,

you're correct that it's 48 months, and I think the institutional payment might be higher too. one thing that made me think applying was a good idea was the october 3rd deadline. i figured very few people would have their sh** together by then (I barely made it) so it would cut down on competition, hehe.

    we'll see how it goes.
