MIT Econ Waitlist

Hi all,

Well I am also one of those serial lurkers - first time posters.

I have a waitlist for MIT, does anyone know how likely it will be to get in. Considering MIT is one of the top five, I do not think it is...

Acc:
Wait:MIT
Applied: Harvard (probably rejection from what yoiu guys say), Stanford, Chicago, Cambridge, LSE
Reject

softsquirrel 's dreams are becoming reality.
I think you should write letters and letters to them until they tell you where you are on the waiting list, otherwise any prediction is completely pointless.

MathMathMath is on the way!
I've heard that they waitlist many people who are applying to NSF, and take those who win NSF, and rejected the others immediately after NSF results are released. If you applied to NSF, you might be in this category.

It can't hurt to ask once where you are on the waitlist but I think that asking repeatedly could annoy them... (re advice above)

I was waitlisted last year and I did not apply to NSF. I heard of people on TM who were not waitlisted but got NSF got in. So in some sense, the waitlist is a hazy concept. Also if you are waitlisted expect no funding. If you have outside funding let them know, it seems to make a difference on the margin. (given you are an excellent candidate etc)

EDIT:
Also pray that Harvard has a GREAT recruiting day... sunny, bright weather, and all those guys admitted to MIT say, what the hell, I like this Ivy league stuff, it makes my grandma happy.

Good luck
