How to cope with offer deadlines?

I have spent the last 2 hours searching for this answer, but no luck.

As the title states, how do you guys cope with all the immediate deadlines?
Basically, they want me to decide within a week or two, but I still have A LOT of schools to hear back from...

is it REALLY bad to accept an offer from School A and later take my words back and go for School B?

How do you guys ask for deadline extensions or rush other schools to give you a response?

this would be for a MA program in Canada.

leguan is on the way!
ask for an extension; in my view, if they don't grant you an extension, it isn't a program from which you can expect much... if they don't even care for the students they want to have, how do they then care for the students once they have them?

I am kind of in your boat with my recent Ph.D acceptance. They want to hear back by March 13th, and while I am very interested, I have every intention of telling them by March 11th, if I haven't heard back from some of the other schools, that I would like an extension on the deadline. If they can't provide one, I'll think of what to do from there. I can't imagine they'd demand a firm acceptance so early without any flexibility. But Leguan's advice is pure succinct gold.

What exactly would be so bad about this? Is there any implication that would last longer than the bad mood of the adcom?

Best wishes
