The official "I Want to Give My LOR Writers a Big Hug" thread

Has anybody else deduced that their letters probably made the difference for them? Mine barely knew me but whatever they wrote must have been good.

100% ditto. Do people get gifts for their letter of recommendation writers after the process is over? Or is that too much?

I have, and I don't know how I should express my gratitude to them. A big hug might just get the message through but I think I'll try to figure out something else...

There actually is a thread on this and, if I remember correctly, many were going give something to their letter of recommendation writers. So I don't think it's too much at all to do so.

My letter writers are amazing, and I think they are feeling responsible that I got so many rejections... but I want them to know how grateful I am... I think this calls for another round of hand written notes and cookies

I guess I will just write an e-mail after all results are out to one of them, since he is leaving quite away from me. And will speak with the other.

seeing as how one of my letter of recommendation writers didn't send out my letter of recommendation to UT Austin until the 26th of February, even though she said she'd sent it out on the first of January, I'm not feeling the hug. I can't help but think I wouldn't be on the waitlist if that had been sent on time.

But I'm sure she and my other writers wrote fantastic recommendations. And they've all been great advisors throughout the process.

After I got my Yale admit I called my main advisor/letter writer and left him this ridiculous message that probably didn't make much sense but I remember saying that next time I see him he should brace himself for a big hug. He got what was coming to 'em then I got him and the rest of my writers little gifts of appreciation.

I'm taking out my letter writers to a really fancy dinner, great wine, all that stuff. Probably going to drop about $150-200 per person when all is said and done, but who cares? They've basically insured that my next 5 years will be awesome!
