Is anyone else (new admits like me or otherwise) looking for some roommates for next year?

I am a current PhD student at UC Santa Cruz. I would like to welcome everyone that has made the decision of attending the school. You have definitely made a good choice and it will definitely be a great experience.

I will be around Santa Cruz in August and September. If you need any assistance settling in etc, do message me. I will be glad to help out.

TBK has done a wonderful job in answering questions and discussing important aspects of the program in this forum.

Thanks.
Sas, you do not have to buy all books in your country and send them to Santa Cruz because some US websites sell cheap books. They even sell international editions.

You can compare the price of books here.
Compare Prices on New & Used Textbooks, Cheap Textbooks - GetTextbooks.com
Next is a good website for cheap books.
Buy Cheap Textbooks, Sell Textbooks, and More at TextbooksRus.com
I am suprised that Barro's economic growth is mere a $20. It is about $40 in my home country.

I had same idea as yours, but a friend of mine studing in US now told me these websites today.

By qual if you mean prelims, it will be at the end of the first year. You will have prelim exams in micro and macro.

You can also add:
AbeBooks Official Site - New & Used Books, New & Used Textbooks, Rare & Out of Print Books
to the list. They have some good discounts.

You will mostly use Varian and MWG for Micro. For game theory, you may also refer to Strategy by Watson.
For macro, there maybe a few changes from previous years as the instructors have changed but I believe Prof. Walsh's book on monetary policy will be a good bet to own.

Thanks. I do not decide yet whether I will buy Walsh's book now or not. It is very cheap in my country, $35, but I know that Carl is preparting 3rd edition, so I am afraid that I will use old version at the time of studying.

Thanks everyone for their responses on the required texts for Q1.

BTW, has anybody checked out our exam schedule for the fall quarter? If I am reading it correctly, we have Macro on 12/7 from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm; Econometrics on 12/8 from 8:00 am to 11:00 am and Micro on 12/8 (yes, that's right!) from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. How crazy is that? 3 exams in 24 hours!
I am freaking out already!
