    Great thanks for the info.

I will probably live off-campus a bit further off up the coast.

    1) Is there a lot of traffic between Santa Cruz and say... Half Moon Bay? Is it an easy drive?

    2) Weather? Between 50-60 most of the time? Does the sun shine? And what about rain?

    3) What kind of macs does the department make available? I-macs?

    4) Would it be possible to install the software offered by the department on a personal mac laptop?

    5) What about vampires?

Actually this is the best graduate admissions web page I have ever seen with the greatest argument to convince you to go to that school
    http://graddiv.ucsc.edu/prospective/whyucsc.php

Note for future UCSC applicants:In the why UCSC paragraph of your SOP you should definitely write about the beach and the great time you will have there as it is in the line with their web page.LOL!!!

I think my biggest worry is seriously finding housing that allows pets and is remotely affordable. North America is so not pet friendly.

Also, the cost my depend on the size of the pet..

    Cheapest: no pet
More expensive: pet weights up to 20 pounds
    Most expensive: large dog..

that is cute, i love dogs.

how early do you think one would need to arrive to find housing? when i did my MA i found housing within a few days (this was in Ohio)...so i was just curious, since I doubt i can get campus housing with a dog.
