This is true.. I'm sure some profs do the same thing when we mention them by name/research.

And yeah, I'm sure he'll be in the auto-accept bracket for every law school with the possible exception of Yale. But if he's interested in law and economics, I would assume he'd rather go to Berkeley or Chicago than Yale anyway.

Speaking of which, I don't think I asked you before... are you going to apply to Harvard Law?

I'm not sure that the LSAT score indicates any interest in law school... it's just one example, but I know someone planning to go to econ grad school who took the LSAT on a whim solely to lock in a high score and make money as a tutor.

i think he'd be more interested in how cowen linked to his blog and gave it lofty praise.

The original cause of Cowen's interest in the blog seems to have been a separate post on EconLog, which itself referred to a comment on another blog. It's amazing how one seemingly insignificant comment can pass through several layers of the blogosphere and bring so much attention to the author's site; I ascribe this to a mixture of luck and the mysterious properties of internet.

Of course, this presumably isn't so unusual -- in fact, I'll bet that most "undiscovered" blogs are found through a series of references like the one here. After all, unless the author is independently well-known, every blog needs to have a big break of some sort before it attains a broader audience.
