depends on the field you like

generally Yale is better of course

piffle_dragon, you may not know, there are two Hungarian professors (I know of) at Berkeley. :-)

finalweek, actually, I thought that Berkeley is better at virtually everything but econometrics—too bad I'm not very much into metrics. Macro and economics of informations, my favorite fields, are better at Berkeley. But, I prefer the Atlantic coast for personal reasons and, yes, Yale pays more.

Anyways, thank you guys for the wishes, and let me wish all of you a week of tons of admission letters. ;-)

But only one is an assistant professor!

Anyway, if you have any questions i would be happy to answer. I am also interested in macro (among other things) and would love to chat about what happens here.

There are a number of other Hungarian students here as well as a number of people in my year who chose Berkeley over Yale, they might be helpful as well.

    Best!

Thank you for your help in advance, piffle_dragon, I really appreciate it! Sorry, I didn't know you already attend Berkeley. :-D Yeah, I know last year three Hungarian guys were admitted. It's funny that I used to attend the same seminar with two of them and that might happen again next year in the very opposite corner of the world. :-)

in terms of academic placement, I believe Yale dominates
Yale is at the same level as Harvard and MIT
for example, If you are the student of Prof Philips, you can guarantee a top 10 school placement

Yale is really great (especially at metrics) but isn't that an upward bias?

Between Yale and (Harvard and MIT), there are quite a few schools, namely Stanford, Chicago, and Princeton

I got an admissions email about an hour ago that also contained funding information. The gradcafe post is probably legit.
